About Our Externship Program

At St. Paul Pet Hospital, we offer externship opportunities for veterinary students in their junior and senior years. These rotations range from one to four weeks and are designed to support private practice experience or elective program requirements.

We truly believe mentorship plays a key role in lifelong learning and in shaping the future of veterinary medicine. Our team is passionate about sharing knowledge, guiding students, and providing exposure to progressive, high-quality care. By investing in students today, we’re helping build a stronger future for both veterinary medicine and the communities we serve.

Our goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students can grow their skills while being part of a team that prioritizes excellent patient care, clear communication, and compassionate service.

This program may be a great fit for you if you:

  • Are currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary program
  • Are eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced small animal practice
  • Are motivated, curious, team-oriented, and enjoy working with people as much as pets

At this time, we’re unable to provide or assist with housing arrangements for visiting students. We recommend planning accommodations in advance to ensure a smooth experience during your externship.

There are no fees to participate in our externship program. While we’re proud to offer this as a learning opportunity at no cost, please note that externships are unpaid and no stipends are provided.

We welcome applications from students enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary programs outside the U.S. However, since this externship is designed to fulfill senior-year curriculum requirements, priority is given to students from AVMA-accredited universities in the U.S. and Canada.

At this time, we’re unable to accept applications from students attending non-accredited universities.
